Our spacious Independent Learning Centre, provides a conducive atmosphere for both directed and
independent study. Our aims are to communicate an enthusiasm for reading and learning, to
stimulate new interrests and broaden general knowledge.
The ILC houses a good selection of newspapers, periodicals, CD-Roms, DVDs, and pamphlets, books,
cuttings, video and audio cassettes - all of which are indexed on a database. Thirty computers
offer facilities for word processing and other software packages as well as Internet access.
The ILC is open through Sessions 1 to 9, during lunch breaks and after college until 4.00pm
Monday to Thursday.
Poetry Day 2007
Fifty staff and students gathered in the Independent Learning Centre during the
lunch break to celebrate National Poetry Day. Several pupils wrote and read
their own poetry on this year’s theme Dreams.
Shockingly, at the end of the Session Mr Withers was overheard to say:
I’m staying home from school today.
I’d rather be in bed
Pretending that I have a pain that’s pounding in my head.
I’ll say I have a stomach ache. I’ll claim I’ve got the flu.
I’ll shiver like I’m cold and hold my breath until I’m Blue.
I’ll fake a cough. I’ll fake a sneeze. I’ll say my throat is sore.
If necessary I can throw a tantrum on the floor.
I’m sure I’ll get away with it. Of that, there’s little doubt.
But, even so, I really hope my students don’t find out.
